MATHEMATICS/SCIENCE TEACHING RESOURCE FILE
CI 402/413 INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES IN MATH AND SCIENCE
SPRING 2001
Organization:
The main purpose of this assignment is to provide a a foundation of resources to use in teaching
mathematics and science. Since these resource files will be yours for use in your present and future teaching situations,
please organize them in a way that you think will be most useful to you. Some suggestions include file boxes of various sizes,
notebooks for various topics or skills, milk crates, etc. Think about how easy it will be for you to locate the specific
materials you will include in your file once you have filed them. Consider how
you will add materials in each area. Please include
Table of Contents or the grading rubric given below.
Materials:
Your files should include a variety of materials such as pictures, trade books, bulletin board ideas, games, speakers,
local resources, and computer software. Class materials should be organized into
these files. Your entries should include materials for both primary and upper elementary
grade levels. If you are considering the possibility of teaching middle school
mathematics or science, then you should also include
entries appropriate for that level. Each entry has to consist of (1) a lesson
plan, which you have written by yourself or with your partners in one of
the collaborative groups you will be working with, based on the learning cycle, and
(2) necessary materials or specific
information how those materials will be provided.
Think of being ready to teach that lesson.
Those materials need to cover the following
Mathematics/Science topics
Nature of mathematics and science - Problem Solving
Nature of mathematics and science - Reasoning and Proof
Nature of mathematics and science - Communication
Nature of mathematics and science - Connections/Integration
Nature of mathematics and science - Multiple representations
Number and Operations
Patterns, Relations, and Algebra
Geometry and Spatial Sense
Measurement
Data Analysis and Probability
Science as Inquiry - Life Science
Science as Inquiry - Physical Science/Chemistry
Science as Inquiry - Physical Science/Physics
Science as Inquiry - Earth and Space Science
Technology in math/science classroom
Grading:
3 points per topic + 5 points for organization and creativity = 50 points.
