RUBRIC

PTWS Final

Assignments are due at the beginning of class period unless otherwise announced on the Calendar.
NO late work will be accepted. I will try to make the purpose of each assignment clear. If you have questions about the purpose of the assignment or what is expected of you, please ask. The requirements for all major assignments are detailed on the following pages. You are expected to demonstrate correct use of the English language with regard to grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I do grade on technical writing skills as well as content. Please proofread your work before turning it in to me. If you have weaknesses in the area of grammar, punctuation, or spelling, find someone who will proofread your work for you before you turn it in to me. As a general rule, it is expected that you will do your assignments on a word processor and print them for me or e-mail them to me.

Attendance and participation

Attendance and participation are essential in this class, both for you to learn and so that others may benefit from your input. Attendance is expected because most of class time will be spent on group discussions and activities. The ideas and concepts presented cannot easily be transmitted through class notes. You are responsible for all announcements made in class even if you are not there. It is important that you arrive in a prompt and timely fashion. THANK YOU FOR COMING ON TIME - IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Self-evaluations

Due dates: September 17, October21, November 21

Please send your self-evaluation after the last class before the due date. Information from that day needs also to be considered when reflecting on your experiences. You may choose your own format but it needs to include enough detail for me to understand how you are progressing in this class; at least one paragraph long report on each of the following questions. For the full number of points, question #1 will probably require more than one paragraph - select concepts that you find most significant, and go from there...:

  1.  What did I learn? Be very specific and give enough details. Think about this as being a test on what you have learned so far. Or, if you do not like tests, consider this a journal entry about the pedagogical content knowledge that you have acquired so far. Carefully select what you want to write about. Remember to support your statements.

  2. What would I like to learn/change?  be very specific. Include dispositions (both for yourself and me).

  3. The following two weeks I will focus on . . .  What can YOU do to enhance your learning related to this class? Include dispositions (both for yourself and me).

  4. What is your point-average at this moment? How do you feel about it? (Attach a spreadsheet with your grades and a reflection grade sheet.)

  5. Include your Global Learning self-evaluation sheet. I might ask you to justify some entries on that sheet. (This request applies only for September and October self-evaluations.)

Mathematics Unit
Working in a cooperative group, each student will be asked to prepare a lesson plan as a part of an integrated unit, math/science/technology with emphasis on mathematics based on materials and experiences in the classroom. Topic will be suggested and determined in the classroom. The cooperative groups will be teaching portions of their unit either in class or to small groups of grade school students.
