THEME: Putting what we have learned into practice
AGENDA:
1. (4:30 - 4:45) Reflecting on our relationship with teaching and learning
2. (4: 45 - 5:45) Tuning Protocol using a mathematics formative assessment (Gina Pierce)
3. (5:45 - 6:15) Dinner: Getting ready for the second year - Surveys
4. (6:15 - 7:00) Mathematical Investigations activities:
Kdg: Mathematical Thinking - Patterns, Trains, and Hopscotch Paths Investigation 3(pg 49-63) (Diane)
2nd grade: Mathematical Thinking - Coins, Coupons, and Combinations Investigation 1(pg 2-53) (1st and 2nd grade teachers, Diana)
4th grade: Mathematical Thinking - Building on Numbers You Know - Investigation 2 (pg 40-71) (3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers, Mara)
- You are making a box to store 24 cubes. What kind of box would require the smallest amount of material?
- Pong Lo wanted one grain of rice on the first day, 2 on the second, 4 on the third and keep doubling the amount for 100 days. How many grains of rice did he have after 100 days?
- Estimate how many grains of rice can fit in one cubic centimeter. Based on that information figure out in how many days your classroom would be full of rice.
- How much space would Pong Lo need to store all the rice he got in 100 days?
5. (7:00 - 7:30) Everyone shares one of the following:
Multi-step problems - Share a problem that you did in your class; it does not have to be a multi-step if you are still not working on that. Bring some students' work
If this is not a focus of your work at the moment, share what you are doing
Tentative calendar for the Year Two:
