MATH Project 2002 |
|
TM MATH - Teacher Made/designed Mathematics is to enhance the quality of practicing elementary and middle school teachers as well as their ability to integrate mathematics and instructional processes by increasing both teachers' mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, and by supporting and developing their leadership skills. TM MATH is a research-based curriculum development project for engaging k-8 teachers in their own thinking and learning of mathematics via designing mathematics modules. TM MODULES will serve as vehicles to bridge the existing gap between activities and conceptual understanding of relevant standards-based underlying mathematical ideas. The approach will provide better underlying conditions for teaching to ALL students, including intervention classrooms. The focus is not only to improve mathematics knowledge and skills of teachers, but also improve their leadership skills so they become role models in their learning communities. |
What is TM MATH? (What are we going to do?)
We will guide a selected group of teachers in developing certain standards based mathematical modules that include both activities and underlying mathematical ideas. The emphasis will be in making explicit the connections between the activities and the ideas.
What is a module?A module is a set of activities that use mathematical ideas to solve a set of problems. The activities will span the grades K-8th to provide opportunities for teachers’ and prospective teachers’ development of mathematics related pedagogical content knowledge.
Why are we going to do TM MATH?
To keep collaboration between the teachers and the university open and productive, TM MATH will provide experiences that
