Summary of your responses (June 27. 2003)
-
What we learned/What we know?
-
I have learned so
much. I can't believe how much I don't know. It's been a tough class
because I feel like I know less now than I did when I started.
-
I do have plans for
my block time. I'm planning on following the elementary model that
the Wichita district has designed. This consists of 10-15 minutes of
a skill review. The skills review can be anything that we've done
before. The I Have/Who Has activity is one example. Then a whole
class lesson takes place. After that is wheel time. (Very similar to
centers) During wheel time, there are 3 groups. There is a teacher
directed group, an independent group, and a small group activity. The
teacher directed groups do not necessarily work on the same thing all
week. I pull these groups together as needed. If a group of students
is still struggling with a concept, I'll use this time to reteach
and/or reinforce. These groups also change from week to week.
Generally, there is only one wheel time activity for students on a
day.

I would like to
have more information on how to structure a 90 min. class period.
-
Could we also
collect more lesson plans throughout the year by grade level?
-
Could we compile a
list of websites for math that others have found helpful?
-
Let's use handhelds
in the class. There are many things that can be done on them.
-
I am very
interested in continuing to participate in BRIDGES. I have learned
more technology in these three weeks than in the past three years!
-
I would like to
continue working with BRIDGES because I am learning about graphing
calculators, Excel functions, and data manipulation. I have been very
impressed with the textbook we are working out of. I also think that
the teaching and coursework have been fantastic. I am planning on
using many of the aspects of the workshop in my own 8th grade
classroom in the upcoming 2003/2004 schoolyear. Overall, I would say
that this has been one of the best workshops I have ever taken at WSU.
I really enjoyed all of the hands-on types of things we did, as well
as the planning and presentation of the lessons by the teachers in our
class. Thank you for the great beginning to our BRIDGES program.
-
I enjoyed getting
to use the graphing calculators daily in this workshop.
-
Even though I felt
smarter before I took this workshop I really enjoyed some of the
challenges.
-
I want to stay
involved. I will be glad to help plan.
-
I would like to
have technology that I can use in my classroom. I suggest you run the
class under the assumption that technology is the focus. Differentiate
instruction to fit all students' knowledge. Provide
information/content that can be used for all levels, (low to high).
-
I appreciated the
trip to Exploration Place
-
Modeling some of
the lessons I have learned within my class by setting up centers after
my initial classroom instruction.
-
I would like to see
the Bridges program slow down just a bit and focus on a specific
skill. For example, by the end of the workshop, we are completely
confident in teaching another how to use excel, graphing calculator,
etc....
-
Yes, I would like
to continue working with the BRIDGES program.
-
I am more verbally
oriented and share my ideas with teammates, but am pretty slow when
putting my words down on to 'paper'... I do too much editing, and so
tend to limit my words on paper.I have been energized and helped a lot
by working with peers within the district. The networking is
INVALUABLE!!!
-
I AM ALWAYS LOOKING
FORWARD TO LEARNING MORE AND BECOMING A BETTER TEACHER. I WOULD LIKE
TO CONTINUE TO BE INVOLVED IN BRIDGES BECAUSE IT DOES INCREASE MY
ABILITY TO TEACH.
-
I will use the
information that I learned from the Summer workshops to help me become
a better teacher. I felt that the BRIDGES workshop was helpful and
worth the time and effort. During the school year it will be hard for
me to find the time to continue meeting but I would love to continue
receiving updates.
-
What we want to learn?
-
I'd like to hear
some discussion from 8th grade teachers about what they need students
to be able to do when the students come to them.
-
I'd like to hear
some tips about the 7th grade state assessment. The 4th grade
assessment is the hardest thing I've ever seen. I can't even imagine
what the 7th grade one looks like.
-
What are some hands
on activities for 7th grade.
-
I want to continue
to increase (remember) my math knowledge. However, I don't
necessarily want to take extra classes. Although I think I will do
some. I also know myself that when school starts, if I'm not
accountable some way, I just won't do it. So, I don't know what I'm
asking for, but something!
-
I'd like some ideas
for using PDA’s a 7th grade math classroom.
-
I'd like some ideas
on how to effectively use a portable lab these in the classroom. Or
at least for someone to "force" me to come up with some lesson plans
on using them.
-
I want to learn
more about EXCEL, Powerpoint, and the software like the Geometer's
Sketchbook.
-
More extensive
direction with graphing calculators.
-
More use of excel
in the classroom.
-
Ideas for block
scheduling would be helpful.
-
Financial resources
to obtain technology in our school.
-
Since we are
getting Geometer's Sketchpad at …. I would be interested in exploring
lesson planning with it more or even presenting during the summer
workshop if you have it again.
-
I would like to do
more problem based learning in my classroom especially since we are
going to 86 minute blocks and another block of intervention.
-
Can the grant be
written so that manipulatives and small technology materials (i.e.
graphing calculators) can be purchased for the schools involved?
-
Modeling some of
the lessons I have learned within my class by setting up centers after
my initial classroom instruction.
-
I appreciated the
trip to Exploration Place. Can we coordinate something with other
places in town where we may take our kids for a field trip?
-
During the school
year it will be hard for me to find the time to continue meeting but I
would love to continue receiving updates.
-
Keep the BRIDGES
website updated for those that cannot meet during the school year.
Hopefully I can continue with BRIDGES next summer.
